Sunday Pictures ~ The Borden's of Fall River (Late 😓)

Image
The spot in the guest bedroom where Abby Borden's body was found. The murder of Andrew and Abby Borden on August 4, 1892, is one of the first crimes I was aware of as a child (Yes, I totally jumped rope to the Lizzie Borden rhyme!). I have also been called Lizzie on multiple occasions by family members for my less than meek attitude. So this case is really close to my heart. I have stayed overnight at the Borden B&B in Fall River twice. The first time in this room, the Morse Room, where Abby Borden was murdered. The second time I stayed in the master bedroom. I totally recommend spending at least one night in the place (The staff is awesome and there is a lot to see! Plus just spending time in the atmosphere is really cool!) There is also a new B&B opening up in Maplecroft (The home of Lizzie and Emma, for a time, after the murders) which I am anxious to go to soon!

Book Suggestion Friday

Another book on the Gardner Museum Heist . Master Thieves:  The Boston Gangsters Who Pulled Off the World's Greatest Art Heist .    (An Amazon affiliate link)  Kurkjian shares great stories from the colorful characters involved (or suspected of involvement) in Boston's Criminal Circles. The book is worth it just for hearing the plan of robbing the ISGM with a cherry picker!

Carrie Lee Mock

Image
Carrie "Kat" Mock was described by everyone who knew her as a sweet person and a dedicated mother. So it was concerning when on the morning of July 19, 1981, Carrie didn't answer her phone. Her family and friends, concerned that multiple calls were going unanswered contacted the Stamford Police to help find her.  Carrie Mock had last been seen by one of her sisters, Mary McClain, the night before. They had gone to a Westside club ( I haven't been able to find the name of the club... yet) on Richmond Hill in Stamford. Both had left before midnight. Mary McClain was the last known person to see her sister alive. Shortly before 6 PM on the 19th, the family's worst fears were realized. Three young boys found Carrie Mock's partially clothed body. She was found on the grounds near the Brunswick School in Greenwich. An autopsy determined she had died from strangulation with stab wounds in her neck. The clothes found with her were not what she had been we

Sunday Pictures ~ The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

Image
This March will be the 30th anniversary of the robbery at the Isabela Gardner Museum Robbery! This museum is one of my favorite places in the world! An art museum that feels like a rich eccentric friend's mansion. The cloister (shown here) is open to all the rooms in the museum so the smell of flowers and earth follow you wherever you go in the original museum, and they change the plants for each season. So the colors and scents are frequently changing... November's Chrysanthemums are shown in this picture.

The Murder Squad If you aren't already listening to this podcast stop what you are doing and go listen now! Journalist and "Citizen Sleuth", Billy Jensen, and retired cold-case detective, Paul Holes, team up with listeners to try to solve cold cases. There is some light-hearted banter and the "weekly distraction" to lift up the mood, but the focus is on finding justice for the victims and their families. Ashley Ouellette - Murdered February 10, 1999

Image
Ashley Ouellette  On the night of February 9, 1999, fifteen-year-old Ashley Ouellette was sleeping over at a friend's house. She called to wish her mother, Lise Ouellette, a good night around 10 P.M. Lise Ouellette never heard from her daughter again. Later that night a few boys from school dropped by the sleepover. The group decided to stop by the Sanborn home, but when the others left, Ashley stayed behind. She had a crush on one of the two Sanborn brothers (Steven). Ashley planned to spend the night on the couch at the Sanborn home, but something happened to her between her friends leaving and 4 A.M. when a motorist finds her with a broken neck from strangulation nearly ten miles away from the Sanborn's house. According to the Sanborn's Ashley left sometime after everyone went to bed, and they don't know what happened to her. Police have questioned both of the Sanborn boys, Steven and Danny, as well as their parents. Danny's story changed several ti

Sunday Photos - Betty and Barney Hill Alien Abduction

Image
Betty and Barney encountered aliens near Lincoln, New Hampshire. They were racing bad weather so they drove through the night. That night in Septemeber of 1961 changed their lives forever. I have spent more time staring and the skies in this part of New Hampshire, and it is so dark on that stretch of Route 3 (even over 50 years later) that it seems like the perfect spot for an abduction. I will be releasing color versions of photos I took while researching my book, and give a little information of that day... well night in this case.
